NNPC Foundation, the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) arm of NNPC Ltd., has commissioned and handed over a fully installed 1.5 Tesla Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) System to the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital (NAUTH), Nnewi, Anambra State.
The intervention is part of NNPC Ltd.’s commitment to improving healthcare access and strengthening medical infrastructure across Nigeria.
The newly installed MRI facility is expected to significantly improve access to advanced diagnostic imaging services for millions of Nigerians across the South-East region, including Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia and Ebonyi States, as well as neighbouring Delta State.
The project involved the delivery, installation, calibration, testing and commissioning of the state-of-the-art MRI machine alongside supporting infrastructure such as RF shielding systems, chillers, backup UPS systems, electrical installations, specialized imaging accessories, ventilation systems, CCTV and oxygen monitoring systems, intercom communication facilities, and other patient comfort technologies.
Before the intervention, patients requiring advanced MRI diagnostic services often experienced long waiting periods, high costs and the burden of travelling long distances to access functional imaging centres.

Bashir Bayo Ojulari, represented by the Managing Director of NNPC Foundation Ltd./Gte, Mrs. Emmanuella Arukwe, described the intervention as a strategic investment in healthcare access and improved patient outcomes.

This intervention aligns with our conviction that access to quality healthcare underpins human dignity, longevity and economic productivity,” he stated.
He added that the company’s social investments remain critical in strengthening the relationship between its core mandate and the expectations of Nigerians.
Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, commended NNPC Foundation for the intervention, noting that the MRI facility would improve safe and accurate diagnosis and treatment for patients across the South-East region.
He described the donation as a major contribution toward improving access to quality healthcare services.
Also speaking, the Executive Vice President, Business Services, NNPC Ltd., Mrs. Sophia Mbakwe, represented by the Chief Supply Chain Officer, Engr. Isokariari Telema, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to impactful social investments aimed at improving the lives of Nigerians.

The Chief Medical Director of NAUTH, Prof. Joseph Ugboaja, also praised NNPC Ltd. for recognizing the importance of healthcare to national development and wellbeing.
He assured the Foundation that the hospital would maximize the facility for the benefit of the public.
“For too long, patients in our catchment area have had to travel long distances to access this level of diagnostic precision, often at prohibitive costs. With this installation, that burden will be eliminated. NNPC Foundation has demonstrated that corporate social responsibility is not just a policy statement but a lifeline for institutions like ours,” he said.
