    NHRC: Ojukwu Expresses Satisfaction After 2025 Budget Defence

    NHRC: Ojukwu Expresses Satisfaction After 2025 Budget Defence

    Dr. Tony Ojukwu (SAN), The Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights (NHRC), has expressed satisfaction after defending the commission’s 2025 budget proposal before the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters on Monday.

    Ojukwu in an interview with newsman shortly after the budget defence said he was able to explained how they spentt the amount released to them in 2024 budget to the committee’s admiration.

    He noted that the Commission is confronted with so many challenges, ranging from paucity of funds to how to deal with human rights issues arising from the activities of criminal elements across the country. This, he said required the assistance of the lawmakers to step up their budget taking into consideration the enormous task the Commission is saddled with.

    Ojukwu said, “The budget defence went well, we were able to explain how we spent 2024 budget the amount that was released to us.

    How we built 8 new offices across the country, it is unprecedented. However, we proposed N19.5bn for 2025 and we hope the senate would do justice to it,” said.

    Meanwhile, members of the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters were proud of the Commission based on their 2024 budget performance and pledged to make sure the 2025 budget is step up.

    However, Ojukwu appealed to FG to intervene in insecurity, human rights violations, Terroristism, others.

    Naija News House had earlier reported president Bola Ahmed Tinubu resented the 2025 Appropriation Bill to a joint session of the National Assembly on 18 December , 2024 in Abuja.

    Naija News House  report that the NHRC got only N8bn in 2024 budget but performed beyond expectations within the year in view.
