BREAKING: After Protests Tinubu Replaces 2 Nominees To NDDC Board
President Bola Tinubu has approved the immediate replacement of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC’s) Ondo State representative nominee, Mr. Victor Akinjo, with a new representative nominee, Otito Atikase.
This was announced on Friday by presidential spokesman, Ajuri Ngelale.
The President equally approved the immediate replacement of the NDDC’s Cross River State Representative nominee, Mr. Asi Oku Okang, with a new Cross River State Representative, Orok Otuk Duke.
“Furthermore, the immediate past Managing Director / Chief Executive Officer of the NDDC, Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, is reappointed to a second term and will remain in acting capacity, pending the Senate’s confirmation of his reappointment”, the statement added.
The replacement of the nominees follows protests from both states against the persons picked by the President.
In particular, protesters who were angry that a PDP chieftain was selected to represent their Cross River State had taken their grievance to the State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, who assured them that President Tinubu would intervene to remedy the situation.
“We are the only APC state in the South-South and if there is anybody to superintend the list, not just in Cross River State but in the South-South geopolitical zone, I believe that I have the mandate.
“We are not fighting anybody, but we want our right, and I am here to assure you that Mr. President is going to look into the issue.
“We will not break the laws, but we want the right thing to be done. Mr President is an astute politician, accomplished technocrat, he is going to address this matter, he hates injustice, the people that worked and toiled will get their rightful positions and take the position of our rep in the NDDC,” the Governor had assured the protesters.
