Senate Committee Upholds Integrity in RMAFC Screening, Says Process Followed Due Process

In a show of legislative order and transparency, the Senate Committee on National Planning and Economic Affairs (NPEA)
has declared that the screening of nominees for the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) was conducted strictly in line with the rules, regulations, and traditions of the National Assembly.

Speaking after the session, the Committee Chairman, Abdullahi Yahaya shortly after the screening of the Nominees on Tuesday affirmed that the entire process adhered to established parliamentary protocols, noting that every step was taken with fairness, diligence, and respect for due process.

“From my own experience and from what I know about things of this nature, we have done everything in accordance with the rules and traditions of the Senate and the National Assembly,” the chairman stated.

He explained that the Committee heard from all the candidates as required and exempted only those traditionally exempted, in keeping with legislative precedents.

Commending the caliber of the nominees, he emphasized that each candidate demonstrated the competence, knowledge, and experience required to serve in the strategic fiscal commission responsible for revenue mobilization and allocation across Nigeria’s three tiers of government.

“It is my pleasure to note that the candidates presented all possess the experience, the knowledge, and the background really required for the work of the commission,” he added.

The Chairman concluded with optimism that the Senate, in its wisdom, will endorse the Committee’s recommendations, thereby paving the way for the nominees to assume their roles in strengthening fiscal discipline and revenue distribution nationwide.

“We have done our part. The final confirmation lies with the Senate. We trust it will concur with our position,” he said.

As the Senate awaits the Committee’s formal report, Nigerians watch closely, anticipating the ratification of a team expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring transparency, fairness, and accountability in national revenue management.
