‘Did You Also Give Lagos to Obi?’ Rufai Oseni Blasts Wike Over 2023 Election Claim

Arise News journalist Rufai Oseni has challenged FCT Minister Nyesom Wike over his claim that his political group allowed Peter Obi to win in parts of the South-South during the 2023 presidential election as a strategy to reduce the votes of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Wike had claimed that the group deliberately allowed Obi to gain ground in the region, while making efforts to stop him in Rivers State.
However, Oseni questioned the explanation, asking whether the same strategy also accounted for Obi’s performance in Lagos State.
“You said you allowed Obi to win South-South to stop Atiku. Did you also give Lagos to Obi?” Oseni queried.
The question puts Wike’s account of the 2023 election strategy under scrutiny, particularly his claim that Obi’s gains in the South-South were part of a deliberate political calculation.
Wike’s remarks have renewed discussion about the role played by the G-5 governors and other political actors during the 2023 presidential election, as well as the factors that shaped voting patterns across different states.
The exchange also comes amid intensifying political conversations ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Wike continuing to defend his political decisions and publicly support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid.
