Senate Screens 2025 Budget Of NPTF

    2025 Budget

ABUJA- On Tuesday Nigerian Senate Committee on Police Affairs has reviewed the 2025 budget proposal of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund (NPTF), highlighting key areas for further consideration before final approval by the full chamber.

Chairman of the Committee, Senator Abdulhamid Mallam-Madori Ahmed, while briefing the press on Wednesday commended the Executive Secretary of the NPTF, Mr. Mohammed Sheidu, for his effective leadership and achievements within a short period.

“We have thoroughly examined the budget, and the committee is committed to recommending its passage by the Senate to enable the Fund to begin implementation,” Senator Ahmed stated. “While we are generally satisfied, we have raised several issues and are working with the Senate to assist the agency in recovering funds tied up due to ongoing litigations.”

In response, Mr. Sheidu expressed gratitude to the committee for its support and acknowledged the financial challenges facing the Fund.

“As the Chairman rightly mentioned, we are currently involved in litigation, including a significant case in the United States, which we are addressing with the Ministry of Justice and the Attorney General,” Mr. Sheidu said. “We appreciate the Senate’s willingness to intervene and help us recover funds that have been warehoused due to these legal disputes.”

Mr. Sheidu further emphasized the need for strategic partnerships to overcome funding shortfalls.

“Given our revenue constraints, we are exploring collaborations with agencies like CISTA and others to fulfill our mandate of enhancing the welfare, infrastructure, and training of the Nigerian Police Force,” he added. “Federal allocations alone are no longer sufficient, so diversifying our partnerships is key.”
