Tinubu Barracks Phase Il Records Progress As Army Chief Reinforces Troop Welfare Drive
The Nigerian Army’s drive to improve accommodation and welfare for its personnel has received a boost as the construction of Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks Phase II continues to record progress.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, conducted an unscheduled inspection of the project on Friday, October 16, 2026, to evaluate construction activities and ensure that work meets the required standards.
The visit reflects the Army Chief’s determination to fast-track the development of military infrastructure and provide better living conditions for officers, soldiers and their families.
As part of the inspection, Lieutenant General Shaibu assessed ongoing work on residential buildings, internal roads, water reticulation systems and other supporting facilities expected to make the barracks suitable for habitation.
Project engineers and consultants briefed him on the progress of construction, operational challenges affecting implementation and anticipated completion dates.
Following the assessment, the COAS commended the progress made so far and urged the contractors to maintain the momentum to ensure the project is delivered on schedule.
He warned against compromising construction quality in the pursuit of speed, stressing that all components of the project must conform to approved specifications and deliver long-term benefits to the Nigerian Army.
The Army Chief explained that the barracks project represents an important step towards reducing accommodation shortages and strengthening personnel morale through improved welfare provisions.
Named after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the facility is part of the Nigerian Army’s broader efforts to modernise its infrastructure and create a more conducive environment for military personnel and their families.
Lieutenant General Shaibu reiterated that the welfare of soldiers remains central to his Soldier First philosophy, noting that access to decent accommodation and essential facilities is vital to building a motivated and effective fighting force.
He added that the Army would continue to monitor ongoing infrastructure projects through regular and unscheduled inspections to ensure contractors meet their obligations and public resources are utilised efficiently.
The COAS reaffirmed his commitment to developing a professional, resilient and combat-ready Army capable of effectively carrying out its constitutional responsibilities, while ensuring that personnel welfare remains a priority.
