Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 10 persons suspected of involvement in illegal mining activities along the Ilorin–Ogbomosho axis.
The suspects were arrested on Sunday, February 1, 2026, following credible intelligence on unlawful mineral excavation and transportation across parts of Kwara and Oyo states.
According to the EFCC, the suspects, made up of nine truck drivers and one escort, were intercepted during a well-coordinated sting operation and taken into custody.
Solid minerals recovered from the suspects include lithium, tin and lepidolite. The Commission disclosed that the suspects were unable to produce the requisite licences, permits or regulatory approvals authorising the mining and transportation of the minerals.
Also recovered during the operation were trucks loaded with the illegally mined materials.
The EFCC said investigations are ongoing and the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
