Woman Divorce Husband For Not Saying Sorry
Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, has adjourned until February 25, a divorce suit brought before it by a woman, Bashirat, against her husband, Alabi, whom she accused of irresponsibility, constant battery and pride.
Bashirat stated that Alabi shirked his responsibility in the home on a constant basis and was never ready to change.
According to the plaintiff, the more she complained, the worse he became and would, on many occasions, descend on her with punches.
Bashirat added that she left home when she could no longer bear with her husbandโs maltreatment of her, but that he felt too proud to seek forgiveness from her and from her parents.
Bashirat stated that Alabiโs attitude showed that he was not remorseful and unwilling to change.
The plaintiff thus prayed the court to end their relationship and grant her their childrenโs custody.
She further entreated the court to mandate her husband to be responsible for their childrenโs upkeep.
Alabi refused to come to court despite being served court summonses.
Bashirat, in her testimony, said, โMy husbandโs presence was never felt in the home.
โHe abandoned his duties in the home and left me and our children to suffer.
โHe always got annoyed whenever I called his attention to his lapses in the home and would beat me blue black.
โI moved out of his house when I could no longer bear with his beatings.
โMy husband is proud.
โMy parents and I were expecting him to come begging and apologising for his misconduct, but he never came.
โHe felt too big to say sorry.
โMy lord, I pray the court to end our union and grant me custody of our children.
โI further plead that the court mandate him to be responsible for their upkeep, giving feeding, education and health care priorityโ.
The president of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case and ordered that fresh hearing notice be issued and served the defendant.
