AU Summit: Nigeria and Angola Seal Deal to Ease Movement of Government Officials
Nigeria and Angola have signed a Bilateral Agreement on the waiver of visa requirements for holders of Diplomatic and Official/Service Passports, marking a significant step in strengthening relations between both countries.
The agreement was signed on Sunday, 15 February 2026, on the sidelines of the 39th Ordinary Session of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Nigeria’s Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, signed the agreement on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, while Angola’s Minister of External Relations, Ambassador Tete Antonio, signed on behalf of the Republic of Angola.
The visa waiver arrangement is expected to facilitate smoother official engagements between the two governments by eliminating administrative bottlenecks for diplomats and government officials travelling on official assignments.
The development aligns with ongoing continental efforts aimed at promoting the free movement of persons, enhancing institutional collaboration, and advancing Africa’s broader integration agenda.
