Benue CP Orders Immediate Dismantling Of All Illegal Checkpoints, Roadblocks, And Unauthorised Revenue Collection Points

The Commissioner of Police, Benue State Command, *CP Cletus C. N. Nwadiogbu, psc(+), mnips, PhD*, has directed the immediate dismantling of all illegal checkpoints, roadblocks, and unauthorised revenue collection points across the State.

This directive affects all routes, with particular emphasis on the federal highways, including *Makurdi-Lafia, Makurdi-Gboko, Ugbema-Vandeikya, Gboko-Aliade, and Otukpo-Otukpa roads*, among others.
The measure is aimed at enhancing public safety, easing the free flow of traffic, and curbing incidents of harassment, extortion, and other unwholesome practices commuters encounter on Benue roads.
Compliance and Enforcement
CP Nwadiogbu has mandated all Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, and Tactical Unit Commanders to ensure strict and immediate compliance within their areas of responsibility. He clarified that only security checkpoints duly approved by appropriate authorities and manned by relevant security agencies with full complement and proper identification will be permitted to operate in the State.
The CP further directed that members of the public should promptly report any case of extortion, harassment, or suspicious checkpoint to the nearest Police Station, security formation, or relevant government agency for prompt action.
Warning to Offenders
The Commissioner warned that anyone found mounting, operating, or collecting revenue illegally at unauthorised checkpoints will face decisive disciplinary and legal action in accordance with extant laws.
Assurance to the Public
He reassured residents and road users that the Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with other security agencies, remains resolute and committed to ensuring the safety and security of all persons and road users in Benue State.
The Command therefore urges members of the public to remain vigilant and continue to support security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious persons, movements, vehicles, and other activities to the nearest Police Station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
