Nigerian Man Cancels Daughter’s Wedding After She Asked Biological Father to Walk Her Down the Aisle
A Nigerian man has sparked heated reactions online after sharing how he allegedly cancelled his stepdaughter’s wedding arrangements following a disagreement over who would walk her down the aisle.
According to the man, he married a single mother whose daughter was three years old at the time and promised to care for both mother and child as his own family.
He explained that over the years, he raised the girl alongside three biological children he later had with his wife. He claimed he provided for her education and welfare, eventually sponsoring her through medical school until she became a doctor at the age of 27.
The man said he was excited when his stepdaughter informed him of her wedding plans and took responsibility for nearly all the expenses, including the wedding hall, catering, drinks, cake, engagement ceremony, and reception.
However, days before the ceremony, the bride reportedly informed him that she wanted her biological father to walk her down the aisle during the wedding. According to him, her mother also supported the decision.
He expressed disappointment, claiming the biological father had played little or no role in the young woman’s upbringing and only reconnected with her about six months earlier.
Feeling sidelined after years of raising and supporting her, the man said he cancelled all the wedding arrangements he had paid for and requested refunds from vendors.
“I told my daughter to ask her biological father to pay for the wedding if he wanted to take that honour,” he reportedly stated, adding that he subsequently travelled out of the country.
The story has since generated widespread debate on social media, with opinions sharply divided. While some users defended the man’s actions, arguing that he deserved recognition for raising the bride, others criticized his decision to withdraw support close to the wedding date.
