For the senior cadre, the promotion covers various ranks, beginning from Inspector of Corrections to Assistant Superintendent of Corrections II and extending to Assistant Controller-General of Corrections.
The exercise also provides for the upgrading of 159 eligible officers to the Superintendent Cadre.
In the junior category, officers were promoted across different ranks, from Correctional Assistant III to Inspector of Corrections. A total of 129 officers were upgraded to the Inspectorate Cadre, while 743 Chief Correctional Assistants were converted to Inspectors of Corrections.
The approval was conveyed to the Service through official communications dated October 26, November 2 and November 4, 2026.
The Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, pcc, welcomed the development, expressing gratitude to the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who also chairs the CDCFIB, for his continued support and commitment to the welfare and professional advancement of correctional officers.
He equally appreciated the Board for approving the promotions, noting that the exercise would strengthen staff morale, encourage professionalism and contribute to improved service delivery.
Nwakuche congratulated the promoted officers and called on them to justify their new positions through increased dedication, discipline, integrity and commitment to their duties.
He emphasised that promotion comes with greater responsibilities and urged the beneficiaries to maintain high professional standards in carrying out their assignments.
The Controller-General assured personnel of the Service’s continued commitment to their welfare, capacity development and career progression.
The Service said the development aligns with its broader objective of building a motivated, disciplined and effective workforce to deliver on its mandate of safe custody, reformation, rehabilitation and reintegration of offenders, alongside the implementation of non-custodial measures.
