The operations were carried out by troops of 18 Brigade on November 3 and 5, 2026, following intelligence reports on the movements and activities of suspected terrorists in the affected areas.

According to the Army, the latest operation took place on November 5 after troops received credible intelligence about terrorists moving from Mashegu Local Government Area towards Rijiyan Nagwamatse in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.
The soldiers mounted an ambush along the suspected route and made contact with the terrorists, who had reportedly abducted residents of the area.
The ensuing encounter resulted in the neutralisation of an unconfirmed number of terrorists and the successful rescue of 16 kidnapped victims.
The troops also recovered two AK-47 rifles, seven magazines, three RPG high-explosive anti-personnel bombs, 33 motorcycles, assorted ammunition and ₦4.105 million in cash.

Following the encounter, troops searched the area and recovered five motorcycles, a mobile phone, ₦644,300 and other sundry items.
The 16 rescued victims were given first aid before being handed over to relevant authorities for proper documentation and reunification with their families.
Reacting to the successes, the Commander of 18 Brigade praised the soldiers for their gallantry and dedication, encouraging them to maintain the operational tempo and intensify efforts to eliminate criminal activities across their area of responsibility.
The Army said the operations reflect the growing effectiveness of its ongoing expansion programme, which is aimed at improving troop deployment, strengthening security presence and enhancing its capacity to respond rapidly to threats.
