“Count Rivers Out” — Wike Blasts Amaechi

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has told the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Vice Presidential Candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, to exclude Rivers State from any opposition calculations ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

Wike insisted that Rivers State is firmly behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and would support his re-election bid in 2027.
Speaking in Rivers State, Wike said: “Whether he said by rigging or, according to him, by whatever he wants it, they should count out Rivers State. Rivers State is totally for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027.”
The statement followed recent comments by Amaechi concerning the possibility of electoral manipulation in the 2027 election.
Wike has repeatedly maintained that Rivers should not be included in the opposition’s calculations, previously saying that those counting on the state for opposition votes should reconsider their projections.
However, the Rivers State chapter of the ADC has previously rejected similar claims by Wike, maintaining that elections are decided by voters at the polls and not by political declarations made ahead of election day.
The latest exchange adds to the ongoing political rivalry between Wike and Amaechi as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general election.
