Dozens Feared Dead As Police, Military Flush Terrorists From Forests
The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed that scores of suspected terrorists have been killed in an ongoing joint operation involving the police and the military across forested areas of the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, CSP William Ovye Aya, disclosed this in a statement made available on Sunday.
According to him, the operation successfully dislodged terrorist networks operating within forests in different parts of Kogi State.
CSP Aya said the onslaught is being carried out with “vigour, commitment and utmost professionalism,” adding that the operation is supported by the Nigeria Police Force Airwing, which has provided precision air strikes to aid ground troops.
He noted that the coordinated offensive has recorded significant successes, leading to the neutralisation of several criminal elements.
The police spokesperson urged members of the public to remain vigilant and assist security agencies by reporting suspicious individuals, particularly those seen with bullet wounds or other injuries.
“The command uses this medium to alert the public to be on the lookout for anyone seen around with bullet wounds, injuries and suspicious behaviour, and to report such persons to the nearest police station,” he said.
He further appealed to residents to support the ongoing security operations by providing credible intelligence on the movement or activities of criminal elements within their communities.
Emphasising that security is a collective responsibility, CSP Aya said cooperation between citizens and security agencies is critical to sustaining peace and safety in the state.
“Security is a shared responsibility. Together, we can make Nigeria better,” he added.
