2027: Obi Promises Bayelsa Seaport, Ibaka Seaport Construction, Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar Port Upgrades
Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has promised to establish a new seaport in Bayelsa State, upgrade existing ports across the Niger Delta and commence construction of the proposed Ibaka Seaport in Akwa Ibom State if elected president.
Obi announced the promises on Friday, October 30, while speaking at the homecoming ceremony of Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, National Leader of the NDC, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

He also criticised President Bola Tinubu over what he described as the President’s lack of physical presence in Bayelsa since assuming office, alleging that Tinubu had not spent a night in the state despite spending over 260 days abroad.
Obi assured the people that his administration would adopt a different approach by regularly visiting the state, engaging directly with residents and responding to their needs.
On infrastructure and economic development, he promised to upgrade the ports in Warri, Port Harcourt and Calabar, alongside the construction of the Ibaka Seaport and a new seaport in Bayelsa.
He said the initiatives would strengthen economic activities and unlock the development potential of the Niger Delta.
The NDC presidential candidate also identified security, national unity, anti-corruption, healthcare, education and poverty reduction as key areas his administration would prioritise.
As part of activities marking the homecoming celebration, Obi and Dickson later participated in a traditional canoe war game and boat regatta at Toru-Orua, Dickson’s hometown in Sagbama Local Government Area.
