Troops Overrun Lakurawa Terrorists’ Enclave in Sokoto, Neutralise Several, Recover Weapons
Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have overrun a Lakurawa terrorist enclave in Waria Forest, Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State, neutralising several terrorists and recovering weapons and five motorcycles.
The operation was conducted on October 15, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist hideouts and restore peace and security across the North-West region.
During the operation, troops of Sector 2 advanced through identified terrorist enclaves along Alela, Bilange and Kandam villages towards Waria Forest, where they made contact with the terrorists.
A firefight ensued, but the troops overpowered the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their positions and flee deeper into the forest.
The troops subsequently pursued the fleeing terrorists, neutralising some of them in the process.
Further exploitation of the area led to the destruction of the terrorists’ camps and associated life-support structures. The troops also recovered weapons and five motorcycles during the operation.
According to the Theatre Command, troops have sustained a strong operational presence in the area, continuing clearance and domination operations to deny the terrorists freedom of movement and prevent them from using the forest as a safe haven.
The command stated that the latest success demonstrates Operation FANSAN YAMMA’s commitment to dismantling terrorist enclaves and restoring lasting peace and security across its Joint Operations Area.
It also commended the troops for their courage, resilience and sustained operational efforts.
The Theatre Command urged members of the public to support ongoing military operations by providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities within their communities.
