Akpabio Tasks National Assembly Management, NASC on Efficiency, Accountability

President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, has urged the management of the National Assembly and the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) to strengthen institutional collaboration, improve administrative efficiency and promote accountability in legislative service delivery.
Akpabio gave the charge on Friday while declaring open a three-day retreat involving the National Assembly Service Commission and top management of the National Assembly at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja.

The retreat was themed, “Strengthening Institutional Synergy, Administrative Effectiveness and Professional Service Delivery in the National Assembly.”
Represented by Senator Babangida Hussaini, the Senate President said the effectiveness of the National Assembly depended not only on the quality of its legislative and oversight responsibilities but also on the efficiency of its administrative structures and the professionalism of its workforce.
He noted that the retreat provided an opportunity for participants to examine institutional challenges, improve coordination and develop practical strategies to enhance the performance of the National Assembly Service.
According to Akpabio, collaboration among departments, directorates and agencies remains essential to achieving institutional goals, stressing that no unit can realise its full potential while operating in isolation.
He urged the National Assembly management and the NASC to sustain cooperation, strengthen coordination and work towards shared objectives that would promote legislative excellence.
“Administrative effectiveness requires us to embrace innovation, improve internal processes, promote accountability and ensure that institutional resources are deployed efficiently,” he said.
The Senate President also emphasised that professional service delivery required discipline, integrity, competence and an unwavering commitment to excellence.
He encouraged participants to contribute meaningfully to discussions, exchange ideas and develop actionable resolutions capable of delivering measurable and sustainable improvements in the administration of the National Assembly.
Akpabio further stressed that the quality of administrative support provided to the legislature must reflect the importance of its constitutional responsibilities and the expectations of Nigerians.
He called on participants to ensure that the retreat produced practical outcomes beyond discussions and resolutions, particularly in institutional governance, administrative processes and service delivery.
“Let this retreat be more than an avenue for discussion. Let it mark a turning point towards stronger institutional governance, more efficient administrative processes and a renewed culture of professionalism and accountability,” he said.
Akpabio maintained that the success of the retreat would be determined not merely by the resolutions adopted but by the commitment of participants to translate them into concrete and achievable results.
He assured participants that he was closely following the proceedings and expressed his expectation to receive the conclusions and recommendations at the end of the retreat for prompt consideration and implementation.
The Senate President expressed confidence that the engagement would strengthen institutional relationships, improve administrative efficiency and enhance professional service delivery across the National Assembly.
The three-day retreat brought together key stakeholders in legislative administration to discuss strategies for improving institutional collaboration, administrative processes and the overall effectiveness of the National Assembly Service.
