IGP Grants Final Approval For Safe School Club Initiative

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has recorded another significant milestone with the final approval granted by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), *IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu* for the commencement of the PCRC Safe School Club Initiative across Nigeria.

The landmark approval was conveyed during a crucial meeting held at the Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja, yesterday evening, where the Inspector-General of Police carefully reviewed the implementation framework of the initiative and gave his official endorsement for its nationwide rollout.

In addition to approving the commencement of the programme, the IGP also approved one of the three samples of the Safe School Club uniform presented before him. The approved design, including the distinctive Fez cap, will serve as the official uniform for the initiative throughout the country. Furthermore, he approved the specially designed traffic safety banner to be used by students while crossing roads to and from their schools, underscoring the programme’s commitment to the safety and welfare of schoolchildren.

The Inspector-General of Police, whose visionary leadership, exceptional commitment to public safety, and unwavering dedication to community policing continue to inspire confidence across the nation, expressed profound appreciation to the leadership of the PCRC under Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim Olaniyan. He reaffirmed his confidence in the committee and pledged the full support of the Nigeria Police Force towards the successful implementation of the Safe School Club Initiative.

The IGP further advised the PCRC to build a membership strength of over 10,000 participants for the Safe School Programme, ensuring that the committee maintains effective control, accountability, and proper coordination of the initiative at every level across the federation. He also emphasized the importance of incorporating adequate security coding and identification measures into the approved uniforms to ensure that every uniform can be traced to its rightful owner, thereby preventing misuse. The Police Chief concluded by offering prayers for the success, protection, and sustainability of the initiative nationwide.

Responding on behalf of the PCRC NEC, the National Chairman, *Alhaji Mogaji Ibraheem Olaniyan* expressed profound gratitude to the Inspector-General of Police for embracing the committee’s vision and providing the necessary institutional support for the programme. He assured the IGP that the PCRC National Executive Committee would work diligently with POLCACOF, the Force Public Relations Department, and the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Safe School Programme to ensure the initiative achieves its intended objectives.

The National Chairman also reserved special commendation for the PCRC Rivers State Chairman, *Dr. Voke,* who led the IGP Special Assignment Committee with remarkable dedication, professionalism, and efficiency. His exemplary leadership, commitment to excellence, and timely execution of the assignment earned the admiration and commendation of the Inspector-General of Police and the entire Force Management Team. His efforts have further distinguished him as an outstanding ambassador of the PCRC.

The Chairman equally appreciated all members of the IGP Special Assignment Committee for their invaluable contributions, particularly on engagements involving the Royal Fathers and other strategic national assignments. Special recognition was also accorded to the National Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative, *Amb. Chief Samuel Olaoluwa Akintoye*, whose unwavering commitment, strategic coordination, and relentless efforts played a vital role in bringing the initiative to this successful stage.

The final approval by the Inspector-General of Police represents a defining moment in the history of the Police Community Relations Committee. It marks the successful completion of the planning phase and officially signals the commencement of the next stage of implementation by the PCRC National Executive Committee. The initiative is expected to strengthen school safety, promote security consciousness among students, deepen community participation in policing, and further reinforce the partnership between the Nigeria Police Force and the communities they serve.

This historic approval stands as another testament to the IGP’s visionary leadership and enduring commitment to safeguarding Nigeria’s future through proactive, community-driven security initiatives. It also reflects the unwavering dedication of the PCRC leadership and the collective efforts of all stakeholders who worked tirelessly to transform the Safe School Club Initiative from a vision into a nationally endorsed programme.
