Tinubu Deserves Second Term Over Infrastructure Drive, Umahi Tells Nigerians

Minister of Works David Umahi has called on Nigerians to support President Bola Tinubu for a second term, insisting that the administration’s infrastructure projects and economic reforms deserve recognition.
Umahi made the call on Tuesday during a town hall meeting in Kano State, where he also urged residents to support Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s re-election bid.

The meeting, held at the Coronation Hall, preceded the commissioning of major road infrastructure projects scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026.
The minister praised the Kano governor for promoting peace, unity and inclusive governance, while describing the state’s environmental cleanliness as a standard other states should emulate.
According to Umahi, the cleanliness of Kano’s streets demonstrated the governor’s commitment to responsible leadership and the effective use of public resources.
“I am yet to see another State that is beating Kano in cleanliness. In all the streets we passed through, you could pick a pin,” he said.
Umahi also applauded Yusuf for bringing together political leaders, former governors and other prominent stakeholders to promote unity and development.
He maintained that engineers should be given more opportunities to occupy leadership positions, arguing that their technical expertise and problem-solving skills could contribute to effective governance and improved infrastructure delivery.
The minister further called for national unity, stressing that the South-East remained committed to Nigeria’s development and should not be viewed as politically opposed to Tinubu’s administration.
On the economy, Umahi defended the Federal Government’s reforms, including the removal of the petroleum subsidy, describing them as difficult decisions necessary to reposition the country for sustainable prosperity.
He urged Nigerians to exercise patience, saying the country was beginning to move beyond the difficult phase of the reforms.
“The worst is over. The darkest part of the morning is the dawn. We are moving into prosperity as a result of the hard decisions occasioned by the reforms,” he said.
Umahi argued that maintaining continuity in government would help sustain ongoing infrastructure projects and consolidate the gains of the economic policies.
He also praised Kano’s peaceful atmosphere and unity, saying his experience during the visit had positively changed his perception of the state.
In his remarks, Governor Yusuf thanked the Federal Government for its infrastructure interventions, particularly the road projects expected to improve transportation and economic activities in Kano and other parts of the North-West.
The governor singled out the outstanding works on the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Expressway, Section I, Lot 1, covering the Zaria-Kano stretch, describing the scheduled commissioning as a significant development for the country’s road network.
Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for supporting the state and said he looked forward to a successful commissioning ceremony.
The Federal Ministry of Works said it remained committed to providing safe, durable and quality roads across Nigeria as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
