Ebola Case: Sowore Questions Tinubu’s Motives Ahead of 2027 Polls

Omoyele Sowore has warned that President Bola Tinubu’s administration could exploit Nigeria’s reported Ebola case to undermine voter participation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Sowore, the African Action Congress (AAC) presidential candidate, made the allegation in a statement on Wednesday, urging Nigerians to question the government’s handling of the public health emergency.
He questioned Nigeria’s communication with Uganda over the medical and travel history of the infected woman, calling for improved disease surveillance and transparency.
The activist also faulted the appointment of Femi Gbajabiamila to lead the Presidential Task Force on Ebola Preparedness, saying medical specialists should take the lead in managing the response.
Nigeria confirmed a case of Bundibugyo virus disease in the FCT on October 20, 2026, with health authorities identifying 44 close contacts and commencing contact tracing.
Sowore urged the government to prioritise scientific expertise, protect frontline health workers and ensure that the outbreak does not become a tool for political control.
