Umahi Inaugurates APC Campaign Council Team on Infrastructure Mobilisation Ahead of 2027 Elections
The Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has inaugurated members of the Office of the Deputy Director General (DDG), Infrastructure, Mobilisation and Sensitisation, of the 2027 All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council.
Umahi, who serves as the Deputy Director General of the council, inaugurated the team on Thursday, October 15, 2026, in Abuja, as part of efforts to strengthen infrastructure communication, mobilisation and public sensitisation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking during the inaugural meeting, the minister called on members to work together with a shared sense of purpose, commitment and cooperation to achieve the objectives of the office.
He emphasised the need for effective coordination in communicating infrastructure developments and explaining their impact on Nigerians.
Umahi explained that the team’s primary responsibility was to identify, document and publicise infrastructure projects being executed by the Federal Government through its ministries, extra-ministerial departments and agencies.
He noted that although the Federal Ministry of Works accounts for a significant proportion of the government’s infrastructure investments, the team’s responsibilities should extend to other ministries, departments and agencies to provide a comprehensive picture of infrastructure development across the country.
The minister consequently charged the Senior Special Assistants to the President on Community Engagement for the six geopolitical zones, appointed as zonal coordinators, alongside other members and the secretary of the office, to work collaboratively in identifying and documenting projects within their respective areas.
He said the exercise would cover infrastructure projects undertaken by the Ministry of Works and other federal agencies, providing a broader account of the developmental activities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration across the six geopolitical zones.
Umahi further clarified that the ministry’s existing publicity activities and those of the Senior Special Assistants would continue, while the Office of the DDG would establish a broader framework for coordinating infrastructure-related information at the zonal, sub-national and national levels.
According to him, accurate documentation and effective communication would help ensure that information about government infrastructure projects was properly presented and made accessible to the public.
The minister also highlighted the importance of infrastructure development in promoting economic growth, national development and community integration.
He stated that infrastructure investment stimulates economic activities, connects communities, creates opportunities and supports the expansion of other sectors of the economy.
Speaking on the Federal Government’s adoption of continuous reinforced concrete pavement (CRCP) technology in road construction, Umahi said the approach was helping to reduce dependence on imported bitumen while promoting the use of locally available materials and expertise.
He added that the technology could support local economic activities, reduce foreign exchange demand associated with imported road construction materials and encourage more durable infrastructure delivery.
The minister urged members of the newly inaugurated team to demonstrate professionalism, diligence and responsibility in discharging their duties.
The inauguration is expected to strengthen coordination and improve the documentation, mobilisation and dissemination of information on infrastructure projects under the 2027 APC Presidential Campaign Council.
