Tinubu Secures APC Ticket for 2027, Pledges Inclusive Governance
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially accepted the nomination of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, pledging to consolidate ongoing reforms and build a more secure, united and prosperous Nigeria.
Delivering his acceptance speech on Sunday at the Bola Ahmed Tinubu International Conference Centre in Abuja, the President described the moment as another milestone in Nigeria’s democratic journey and thanked party leaders, governors, lawmakers and members for their continued support.
Tinubu recalled emerging as the APC presidential candidate in 2022 before eventually winning the presidency, noting that he now returns as incumbent President with “renewed passion for the tasks ahead.”
He said the focus of his administration remains sustaining reforms, strengthening democratic institutions and driving economic transformation across the country.
According to him, his government has implemented major reforms in education, power, infrastructure and the economy despite prevailing challenges.
The President highlighted the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, saying over N282 billion had been disbursed to more than 1.5 million beneficiaries as part of efforts to remove financial barriers to higher education.
On power, Tinubu stated that the administration had supplied 2.5 million electricity meters through the Presidential Metering Initiative and established a N4 trillion bond programme to settle verified debts owed to electricity generation and gas companies.
He added that power generation had at times reached 6,000 megawatts, representing a 50 per cent increase from what his administration inherited.
Tinubu also defended the removal of fuel subsidy and exchange rate reforms, saying the policies were beginning to yield positive results, including stronger foreign reserves and improved economic outlook.
The President noted that his administration was investing heavily in roads, airports, seaports, digital infrastructure and irrigation projects to drive inclusive growth and industrialisation.
Speaking on security, Tinubu acknowledged that insecurity remains a major concern in parts of the country but assured Nigerians that his administration is intensifying efforts to restore peace and stability nationwide.
He disclosed that investments had been made in intelligence gathering, surveillance systems and modern equipment for security agencies while calling on the National Assembly to urgently amend the Constitution to allow the creation of state police.
“We will not rest until we restore peace and stability to every corner of our country,” he declared.
Tinubu appealed for national unity, urging Nigerians to rise above ethnic and political differences in the interest of national development.
He also extended a hand of partnership to political opponents, stressing that democracy thrives on diversity of ideas and constructive engagement.
The President warned against complacency ahead of the 2027 elections, saying Nigerians should not allow politicians “with no clear alternative vision” to reverse the progress already achieved.
He pledged to build a more inclusive government that listens and responds to the needs of citizens while reaffirming his commitment to economic expansion, industrialisation, energy security and democratic consolidation.
Tinubu concluded by thanking APC members for the confidence reposed in him and expressed optimism that Nigeria would achieve greater prosperity through unity, discipline and collective effort.
