BREAKING: Dozens Feared Dead As Explosion Rocks Highway
Many travellers are feared dead following a suspected bomb explosion along the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau road in Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
The incident reportedly occurred on Saturday, with an unspecified number of commuters caught in the blast while travelling along the busy route. Casualty figures remain unconfirmed as of the time of filing this report.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Zamfara State Command, Yazid Abubakar, told Daily Post in a telephone interview that an explosion had occurred but details were still sketchy.
“I can confirm that there was a blast in that area, but the incident just happened. I can’t tell you details yet. I will update you later,” Abubakar said.
Meanwhile, videos circulating on social media allegedly show the aftermath of the explosion, with travellers seen fleeing the scene in panic amid fears of further attacks.
The incident has triggered reactions from Nigerians on social media, particularly on X (formerly Twitter). A user, Nuhu Sada (#NuhuSada0), wrote, “Another tragic attack on innocent travelers in Zamfara. Families are grieving, lives are lost, and property destroyed. Security agencies must act quickly to prevent further harm and bring those responsible to justice.”
Another user, #DanKatsina50, posted, “BREAKING NEWS: Moment ago, an explosion struck travelers on the Yar’Tasha–Dansadau way in Maru LGA, Zamfara State. The blast suspected to be an IED planted by bandits caused deaths and loss of property; casualties remain unconfirmed. Are security agencies investigating and what measures are being taken to secure this route?”
In a related development, residents of Offa in Kwara State were thrown into panic late Thursday night after loud explosions reportedly rocked parts of the town, resulting in the destruction of residential buildings.
The Offa incident occurred shortly after United States President Donald Trump announced U.S. airstrikes targeting ISIS positions in parts of Nigeria. However, it remains unclear whether the explosions in Offa were connected to the reported U.S. airstrikes or were carried out solely by Nigerian military forces.
Authorities are yet to issue detailed statements on either incident as investigations continue.
