₦200,000 Ransom: Nigerian Troops, DSS Nab Suspected Kidnapper in Disguise Operation
Security operatives have arrested a suspected kidnapper, Mukaila Iliyasu, during a joint operation by troops of Sector 2, Operation WHIRL STROKE, and the Department of State Services (DSS).
The operation, which took place on October 29, 2026, led to the recovery of ₦200,000 allegedly demanded from a female resident as ransom.

According to a military statement, the operation was launched after DSS operatives received information that the suspect had threatened to abduct the woman if she failed to pay the demanded ₦200,000.
Following the report, troops and DSS personnel launched an intelligence-driven operation to track down and arrest the suspect.
In a carefully coordinated sting operation, a soldier went undercover and posed as someone delivering the ransom money to the suspect.
The plan succeeded as the suspect was apprehended while collecting the ₦200,000.
He was later handed over to the DSS for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE and General Officer Commanding 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Kolo Gara, commended the troops and DSS operatives for their gallantry, professionalism and successful collaboration.
Gara charged them to maintain the existing intelligence-sharing mechanism and strengthen operational synergy to rid the Joint Operations Area of kidnapping and other criminal activities.
