Many Feared Killed, Abducted as Terrorists Raid Police Station, Raze Emir’s Palace
Fear has gripped residents of Yashikira community in the Kiama Local Government Area of Kwara State following a fresh terrorist attack that left several people abducted, including members of the emir’s family.
The attack occurred in the early hours of Monday, just hours after armed bandits invaded a prayer ground in Ekiti LGA, where three worshippers were killed and 15 others abducted.
Residents said the attackers stormed the community at about 12:40 a.m., firing gunshots for several hours and causing panic across the area.
A resident who spoke to Naija News House on condition of anonymity said more than 10 people linked to the emir were taken away by the attackers.
“It was a terrible attack. I live close to the palace and heard gunshots for hours. Many people close to the emir were abducted and taken to an unknown destination,” the resident said.
During the assault, the terrorists reportedly invaded the Yashikira Police Divisional Headquarters and the palace of the Emir of Yashikira. Security operatives engaged the attackers in a prolonged gun battle before eventually repelling them.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the attackers carried out simultaneous attacks on the police station and the emir’s palace at about 2:00 a.m.
She disclosed that part of the palace was set ablaze during the attack, while 10 persons were kidnapped by the armed criminals.
Several residents also sustained injuries during the invasion, although no death was officially recorded as of the time of filing this report.
