TCN Reports Collapse of Three Transmission Towers, Disrupts Power Supply to Keffi, Akwanga

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced that electricity supply through all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and Akwanga Transmission Substations has been disrupted following the collapse of three transmission towers.
TCN said Towers T78, T79 and T80 along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV Transmission Line corridor collapsed during rainy and windy conditions on Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
According to the company, the transmission line tripped at about 4:06pm after its overcurrent relay protection was activated. Investigations subsequently confirmed the collapse of the three towers.
TCN said the affected line was immediately isolated for safety, leaving all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga substations unavailable.
Engineers have been deployed to the site to assess the extent of the damage and determine the materials and resources required to commence restoration work.
The company apologised to affected electricity customers and assured them that efforts are underway to restore bulk power supply as quickly as possible.
TCN said further updates will be provided as restoration activities progress.
