Nigerian Navy Hands Suspected Militant Collaborator to DSS
The Nigerian Navy has recorded another operational success in its sustained campaign against militancy and criminal activities in the Calabar waterways, handing over a suspected militant collaborator to the Department of State Services (DSS) in Cross River State.
The suspect, identified as Mr. Ubong Clement, was arrested by personnel of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) VICTORY stationed at the Forward Security Outpost on Dayspring Island in Akpabuyo Local Government Area.
According to the Navy, the arrest was part of ongoing intelligence-led operations aimed at disrupting criminal networks and their support systems within the region.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect allegedly maintained regular communication with members of militant groups operating around the Dayspring Island axis. Security operatives also linked him to a notorious militant identified as Steven Joseph, popularly known as “Juju,” who has reportedly been involved in criminal activities across the waterways.
Investigators further alleged that Clement acted as an intermediary in the disposal of goods stolen from market boats intercepted by militants. Proceeds from the sale of the stolen items were reportedly transferred to members of the militant network, providing financial and logistical support for their operations.
Following the completion of initial investigations, the suspect was formally handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), Calabar Command, for further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
The Nigerian Navy stated that the handover demonstrates its commitment not only to apprehending individuals directly involved in militancy but also to dismantling the networks that enable and sustain criminal activities in the maritime domain.

The Navy reaffirmed its resolve to continue intelligence-driven operations, strengthen community engagement, and execute targeted security measures aimed at ensuring lasting peace and security across the Calabar waterways and surrounding communities.
