Troops Repel Terrorist Attack on Military Base, Rescue Nine Abductees
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack on the Forward Operating Base (FOB) at Kasuwan Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, inflicting heavy casualties on the attackers and rescuing nine abducted civilians.
The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Saturday, August 2, 2026, when the terrorists attempted to infiltrate the military base under the cover of darkness. Alert troops quickly detected the movement and responded with coordinated firepower, forcing the assailants to abandon their mission and flee.
Military reinforcements were immediately deployed, leading to a hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists. During the operation, troops rescued nine residents who had been abducted by the attackers while escaping from the area.
However, the military disclosed that one Army officer and one Police officer lost their lives during the fierce exchange of gunfire. Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were airlifted to a medical facility for advanced treatment. They are reported to be in stable condition.
Following the operation, troops secured the area and commenced exploitation operations to determine the full extent of the terrorists’ casualties while ensuring the safety of residents.
The military described the failed attack as another major setback for terrorist groups operating in the North-West, noting that sustained offensive operations have continued to weaken their fighting capability, morale, and freedom of movement.
Operation FANSAN YAMMA also dismissed online reports claiming that six security personnel were killed during the incident, clarifying that only one Army officer and one Police officer paid the supreme price.
The operation reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining offensive actions against terrorist networks, protecting vulnerable communities, and restoring lasting peace and security across the North-West region.
