Troops Recover Rustled Livestock, Apprehend Suspected Bandits And Restore Public Order In Sustained Operations Across Kaduna State

In sustained efforts to combat terrorism and other criminality within the North West region and beyond, troops of Sector 1, Joint Task Force North West Operation FANSAN YAMMA (JTF NW OPFY), have recorded notable operational gains in a series of coordinated operations across Kaduna State, disrupting criminal activities, apprehending suspected bandits, recovering rustled livestock and restoring public order in affected communities.

On 20 June 2026, troops responded swiftly to credible intelligence on cattle rustling activities in a community within Kaduna State. The troops made contact with the fleeing criminals and engaged them in a firefight, neutralizing two suspected bandits while recovering weapons, ammunition and other items, as well as rustled livestock. The prompt intervention disrupted the criminal operation and enabled the recovery of the stolen animals. Regrettably, one civilian lost his life during the incident as a result of the bandits’ actions.

In another successful operation conducted on 20 June 2026, troops intercepted two suspected bandits during a night patrol. Thorough examination of the suspects revealed incriminating digital materials linking the suspects to terrorist and bandit activities. The suspects are currently in custody and undergoing further investigation.

Similarly, on 21 June 2026, troops conducting a fighting patrol encountered armed criminals who came under pressure and retreated into the surrounding bush. Maintaining aggressive pursuit, the troops successfully apprehended two suspected bandit scouts and recovered motorcycles, communication devices containing incriminating evidence. Preliminary findings indicate the suspects’ involvement in criminal activities, while investigations are ongoing.

In a separate development on the same day, troops responded promptly to a civil disturbance at Mararraba community in Kaduna State, following the tragic mob killing of a female suspect accused of child trafficking. The violent crowd subsequently attempted to attack public infrastructure and obstruct a major highway before the timely arrival of security forces. Troops swiftly restored law and order, dispersed the mob, secured critical facilities and ensured the uninterrupted movement of commuters while maintaining a visible presence to prevent any further breakdown of public order.

The Theatre Commander, lauds the vigilance, discipline and operational effectiveness displayed by the troops, noting that the recent successes reflect the Force’s resolve to relentlessly pursue terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements wherever they operate. He assures residents that ongoing offensive and intelligence-driven operations will be sustained to further degrade criminal networks and enhance security across the region.
