Borno: Military Deals Heavy Blow to ISWAP, Kills Senior Shura Council Member, Commanders
The Nigerian military has recorded another major operational success against Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) terrorists following the neutralisation of several fighters, including senior members of the group’s leadership, in Kukawa, Borno State.
Among those killed during the October 31, 2026, encounter was Abu Hajara, a high-profile member of ISWAP’s Shura Council. Also neutralised were Abul Walid, a prominent commander and close associate of the group’s overall Wali, Ba Shuwa, and two high-ranking Arab fighters.

The troops, operating under the Joint Task Force North East, Operation HADIN KAI, successfully repelled a massive terrorist attack on their positions in Kukawa through a coordinated military operation involving ground forces and air support.
Military sources disclosed that the operation resulted in heavy casualties among the attacking terrorists, with troops subsequently recovering scores of arms, ammunition and communication devices.
The latest victory comes barely three days after another major engagement in Buni Yadi, where troops reportedly neutralised 55 terrorists, including some of ISWAP’s key commanders.
Those killed in the Buni Yadi operation included Ali Mandara Abba Gajiri, popularly known as Munzir; Habu Ikkima Nakif Yana Faruk; and Commander Gogore.
The Theatre Command said the successive operations demonstrate the determination and operational capacity of troops to dismantle terrorist networks and degrade their fighting strength across the North-East.
It further assured residents of its continued commitment to protecting law-abiding citizens, eliminating terrorist elements and destroying their camps throughout the region.
